A short loop around the old St Gilles district

BOUCLE N°20 – SAINT GILLES CROIX DE VIE

Initially, the route takes you along the Port Fidèle quay via a pleasant cycle path. It's a great way to enjoy a panoramic view of the marina and the Croix de Vie district. Once past the Pont de la Concorde, the Quai Garcie Ferrande rolls out the red carpet for you, offering you a lush green setting in which to pedal. To your right, you can admire the majestic coastal river La Vie, which divides the maritime city in two.

Further on, just let yourself be guided by the cycle path that takes you to the outskirts of the town.

The journey ends on the Vélodyssée route, with a tête-à-tête with the River Jaunay. In the background, the dunes of the Jaunay and Sauzaie. To discover this unique site, we recommend that you plan another cycle ride, this time heading for Brétignolles sur Mer!

1 Take the route of loop no. 20 in the direction of Les Petits Mousses, follow the cycle path for 600 m and enjoy your first encounter with the elegant River Jaunay. At the first junction (avenue du Pont-Neuf), continue straight ahead, crossing carefully.

2 Continue for almost 2.5 km along the rue de la Roche Bonneau and then the chemin de la Roche Bonneau. First, you'll discover the Jaunay dunes through open vistas, an opportunity to appreciate the uniqueness of this unspoilt environment. A few metres further on, the dunes play hide-and-seek behind denser vegetation. The Chemin de la Roche Bonneau is sure to delight, a peaceful, shady setting that's perfect for pedalling.

3 At the end of the path, turn left towards the commune of Givrand. Before you reach the roundabout, you will be offered a wide panoramic view of the wooded landscape characteristic of the gentle marshes. At the roundabout, shortly after the third exit, take the cycle path.

4 Follow the salt route for 3 km.

5 A few metres before the Europe roundabout, cross the D38 on your left, using the facilities provided. Shortly afterwards, go around the roundabout again, crossing the D6 at the pedestrian crossing. 50 m later, turn left to cross the D38 again, then join the cycle path on your left. Follow this cycle path for 2 km. Continue around the next two roundabouts using the pedestrian crossings.

6 Then cross the Route du Sel to return to the old town of St Gilles along the Promenade Garcie Ferrande for 500 metres. On your left, La Vie is sure to catch your eye, and the parade of small pleasure boats and the Croix de Vie district are sure to catch your eye.

7 Cross the next roundabout carefully, then follow the cycle path along the Quai du Port Fidèle to get back to the starting point.
