Along the way, Brem sur Mer reveals its many facets.

BOUCLE N°4 – BREM SUR MER

A magnificent route through marshland, countryside and vineyards, ideal for discovering the Fiefs Vendéens AOC wine estates, and the Mulnière farm, a former stronghold known for its cross pattée. Halfway along the route, stop off at the village of La Gachère, a former port that remained in use until the 16th century. Today the port no longer exists, but the fishing village has been preserved with its typical narrow streets and low whitewashed houses.

You'll discover an exceptional heritage and terroir:
- Saint Nicolas Romanesque church and its old quarter: former feudal motte (viewpoint)
- In the lower part of St Nicolas: the Vallée de l'Ecours, picnic area and small sports trail
- Parc des Genêts
- Village of la Gachère (former port on the Auzance estuary) and its marshes.
- Menhir de la Crulière and la Vigie
- AOC Fiefs Vendéens Brem" vineyard (cellars open to the public)
- The hut in the Chabossière marshes

CarteListe

1 Follow the green N°4 cycle signs into the town centre along the D38 (unless you are with children, the Rue du Champ Prieur is recommended for greater safety). Arrive in the St Nicolas district.

2 Get off your bike and take the time to visit the interior of the charming 11th-century Romanesque abbey church. Open all year round, through the little door at the side! Take the tumlus path up to the motte féodale, then descend to the Vallée de l'Ecours and climb back up via the rue de la Pierre levée. Get back on your bike and take rue du prieuré, then turn left into rue de la Chaize, then straight on until you cross the D40.

3 Arriving in the wine-growing district of La Mignotière, the winemakers will be delighted to open their doors to you for a tasting of their vintages. Make the most of these dirt paths through the vineyards!

4 On your right, stop at La Vigie. After 200 metres, stop to admire the panoramic view (Brem's highest point is 50 metres above sea level): you can see the bell tower of St Martin's church with the sea behind and the Olonne forest in the background on the left.

5 Continue along the dirt track to the Crulière menhir, visible on your left. Cross over to the D54, then head straight on to the charming village of La Corde.

6 Take the Champ du marais path, then after crossing the D38, continue towards the Chabossière path. Stop off in the marshes to sample some oysters accompanied by a Brem white wine?

7 Alternatively, continue on to the D80 and cross it to arrive in the superb, typical fishermen's quarter of La Gachère! Stroll through the narrow streets and over to the little bridge to admire the little boats on the Auzance and the marshes.

8 Rue des Gabelous (plage des Dunes 2, 500 metres on the left) then rue du Brandais to go back up (it's a good way of putting it!!!) to the Tourist Office.
