Discover the classical music of Pierre Gallon and Mathieu Boutineau in Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.
Free admission in aid of the Orgue Rouge et Or (ORO) association. Composed by François Couperin for the "private household" of Louis XIV, the Concerts royaux were played "almost every Sunday of the year" in 1714 and 1715, to entertain a monarch at the end of an interminable reign.
The composer himself "played the harpsichord", accompanying several other illustrious musicians. These pieces of supreme refinement were much appreciated at the time, and Couperin had them published. Originally conceived for a small chamber music ensemble, Pierre Gallon and Matthieu Boutineau have arranged these pieces for two harpsichords, as was done in those days with family and friends.
