The 06 Jun 2025
85800 SAINT-GILLES-CROIX-DE-VIE
41st edition of the festival! Here's the programme for the 2 evenings:
->Friday 6 June 2025:
Festival godmother
Rhoda Scott "Lady Quartet
Rhoda Scott: Organ
Sophie Alour : Tenor Sax
Lisa Cat-Berro : Alto sax
Julie Saury : Drums
The barefoot organist:
An absolute virtuoso on the Hammond organ, Rhoda Scott has developed her own pedal-bass playing technique that allows her to dispense with a double bass player. Initially out of a childlike respect for the church instrument, then out of habit, she plays the pedalboard barefoot, hence her nickname: "The Barefoot Lady". Although she has written a few compositions of her own, Rhoda Scott is best known for bringing to life the repertoire of the African-American tradition, and for grooving to famous representatives of popular music (The Beatles) and the classical tradition (Bach).
Able to draw on hundreds of negro spirituals that she knows by heart, Rhoda Scott has never stopped playing in the churches and temples of the towns where she has lived. For her, as for many black American musicians, music is a manifestation of the divine, and as such a path to spirituality.
->Saturday 7 June 2025
Richard Galliano "New York Tango Trio
Richard Galliano: Accordion
Adrien Moignard: Guitar
Philippe Aerts : Double bass
Compositions by Astor Piazzolla and Richard Galliano
TCB Records/Montreux Jazz Label - Swiss Radio Days
"The jazz approach to New Tango and New Musette has always been obvious to me. Jazz, Musette and Tango all draw on the same ingredients: a rapport with the dance, strong melodies and precise, sophisticated harmonies. And the most important thing of all is style (as Astor Piazzolla said).
In the presence of Adrien Moignard (guitar) and Philippe Aerts (double bass), we'll be taking a jazz approach to this New Tango and New Musette repertoire, playing each concert in a totally free manner, sometimes straying from the score but never from the composer's soul". Richard Galliano, 28 February 2022
