The promise of a memorable trip to the heart of the Jaunay marshes

BOUCLE N°16 – GIVRAND

This long loop will take you through the beautiful countryside surrounding the commune of Givrand. You're guaranteed to get plenty of fresh air and enjoy a walk in the shade as you pass through many wooded areas and large expanses of countryside.

Right in the heart of the marshes, the loop offers a first encounter with the River Jaunay via a small wooden footbridge. A popular spot for freshwater anglers and lovers of bucolic landscapes.

To finish in style, the route offers you the chance to cycle a section of the Vélodyssée, in the heart of the Jaunay de la Sauzaie dune area. Before this stage, don't hesitate to fill up on sea air along the Sauzaie beach at Brétignolles sur Mer.

The return journey to Givrand will take you along the water's edge along a greenway that's perfect for contemplation and a change of scenery. All along the way, you'll enjoy beautiful views over the vast expanses of farmland that line the cycle path. Don't be surprised to find an abundance of biodiversity.

Gravel and mountain bike enthusiasts are sure to appreciate the variety of trails and the comfort of the small roads.

1 From the Maison de la Cour, head for the roundabout on your right, taking the third exit onto the cycle path on your left. Then cross the second roundabout using the pedestrian crossing on your left to join the other part of the cycle path. At the next roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the voie verte. After 250 m, turn carefully right across the main road. You will gradually leave the village on a white track that will take you through beautiful countryside. After 500 m, cross the road and continue straight ahead.

A few metres further on, you will come to the D42, so be sure to check both sides before entering the road. Take the first turning on the right and clear a small rise. Continue straight on for 2 km. Turn right and follow the main road for 2.5 km. At La Fillonnière, succumb to the charm of this verdant locality. Not to mention the presence of many animals.

2 km further on, you will come face to face with the River Jaunay. A bridge will allow you to take in the views from both sides. Upstream of the D12, turn right and follow the road along a small footpath. Turn left and cross the road.

4 After 800 m, follow the peaceful route de la Croix David for almost 1.4 km, with beautiful woodland and wildflowers along the way. At the junction, turn right and then immediately left. Go straight ahead and continue along Rue de la Chalonnière. Carefully cross the D38 to continue straight ahead on rue des Cavaliers. Then turn right, leaving the avenue de la Garenne de la Chalonnière to lead you to the Brétignollais coastline and its preserved dune area.

At the stop sign, head for the cycle path that runs alongside the Sauzaie and Jaunay dunes. A completely different landscape gradually takes shape. The route takes you through the heart of this pleasant vegetated dune area. With gently undulating dunes and small pastures and wooded areas, the route promises a pleasant variety of scenery.

Once you have passed the Camping des Cyprès, follow the cycle path and continue straight ahead. Stay on the path that runs alongside the main road, then cross at the two pedestrian crossings. Follow the greenway for 2.5 km to get back to the starting point. This final stage brings the walk to a beautiful close, with its bucolic setting.
