La Balise – Les Comptines à Jaulin

It starts with little melodies sung to lull them to sleep, or to keep them occupied while bantering on the road, or on those long car journeys home. Vocal notes recorded on a phone. And then I pull out the books of nursery rhymes I've collected from Adelina Magaud or Father Richard in Saint-Julien-des-Landes. I have their voices in my ear, the childhood of their voices. I tell myself that tickling my child's heart is a beautiful rote to weave towards the hearts of the funny ones.
