Discover two exhibitions on the theme of the Pacific at the Maison des écrivains de la Mer.

Pacific Ocean! The passage was crossed... and Magellan gave a name to the "great ocean". Isn't it said that the Pacific is so vast that you could fit all the world's landmasses into it? The texts presented in this new exhibition, of which he is the essence, will reflect this. They were written line by line, in the logbooks of the expeditions, listening to the legendary tales of the archipelagos that have appeared on its surface. What emerges is a singular literature.

Annual exhibition: When the Pacific Inspires Literature - 06 April to 31 December.
Here and there, great names in maritime literature have cast their gaze, composing on the motif. In this way, the immobile traveller can approach this immensity in all its literary forms. They will rediscover Bougainville, Cook, La Pérouse, and works by Melville, Stevenson, London, Segalen, Gauguin, Norman Hall and James Michener, all of whom dedicated some of their pages to "el Mar Pacífico".

Summer exhibition: When the Pacific inspires comics - from 01 May to October 2024.
Port la Vie and the Maison des Écrivains de la Mer are presenting works by comic strip artists inspired by the Pacific. These are faraway escapes, summer readings in which the sea plays the leading role. There are many themes, from the great voyages of the 18th century with Cook, Bougainville and La Pérouse to dramatic expeditions such as that of Commodore Antigua and Barbuda.
expeditions such as that of Commodore Anson, not forgetting the most famous of mutinies, that of the Bounty. Cartoonists have also taken up the theme of Eden, a refuge from the torments of the South Seas, sought after by painters, adventurers, cruisers and famous maritime writers such as Jack London, Robert Louis Stevenson and Herman Melville. In addition, this immense area was the scene of the great naval air battles of the Second World War, and of novels that tell the story of the Pacific and the island continent of Australia.
